Ulster County's Art Gallery Trail: Where to See World-Class Art Beyond Manhattan |
From Kingston's Broadway galleries to Woodstock's artist co-ops, a guide to the county's thriving visual art scene |
Ulster County has been an artists' colony for over a century, and the gallery scene in 2025–2026 is as vibrant as ever. Whether you're into contemporary installations, fine photography, or textile art, there's a space here for you.
Kingston's Gallery Row
Arts Society of Kingston (ASK)
ASK is currently featuring TEXTILES, a juried exhibition gathering regional artists who treat fabric, thread, and fiber as both material and metaphor — quilted abstractions, handwoven pieces, and soft sculpture share the walls.
Rewind Kingston
Rewind hosts mixed-media artist Amelia C. Williams's ongoing series The Lovebugs, turning the shopfront into a layered installation with records, paintings, flowers, and fluorescent rope light exploring mental health and release.
Le Shag
Le Shag continues its tradition of fiercely independent art with Through the Eye of Dave "Face" Boccio, a decades-spanning photographic retrospective of one of the Hudson Valley's most beloved underground documentarians.
Woodstock: The Original Art Town
Woodstock Artists Association & Museum (WAAM)
WAAM closes out each year with a robust lineup reflecting the depth of the region's creative community — from juried group shows to thematic exhibitions exploring social and environmental issues.
Kleinert/James Center for the Arts (Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild)
The Kleinert/James Center pairs historic Byrdcliffe landscape paintings with new photographs by the Women Photographers Collective of the Mid-Hudson Valley in Sharing the Space.
Woodstock School of Art
The Woodstock School of Art looks back at the early 20th-century plein-air program that helped establish Woodstock as an art town with In the Open Air.
Photography & Fine Art
Center for Photography at Woodstock (CPW)
CPW presents Rahim Fortune: Between a Memory and Me — photographs rooted in the artist's life in Texas and the broader Black experience in the American South, lingering on quiet domestic scenes and roadside landscapes.
Academic & Community Spaces
SUNY Ulster's Muroff-Kotler Visual Arts Gallery
The Muroff-Kotler Gallery runs a full exhibition calendar: Black Excellence: A Legacy in Color (February 2026), Future Voices 2026 showcasing county high school artists (March–April), and the Spring 2026 Student Exhibition.
