The Rosendale Street Festival Returns This Weekend — And It's Bigger Than Ever |
Over 100 bands, 8 stages, 3 days of music, and 100+ community groups descend on Rosendale for its 27th annual celebration the weekend of August 22–24, 2026 |

If you've never been to the Rosendale Street Festival, picture this: a small Catskill village of about 6,000 people swells to welcome roughly 20,000 visitors over a single August weekend. Main Street — which is also Route 213 — becomes a car-free festival ground. Eight stages go up across the town. Over 100 bands perform. Local vendors, nonprofits, and crafters line every available foot of sidewalk. And for three days, Rosendale becomes the loudest, most joyfully chaotic small town in Ulster County.
The 27th annual Rosendale Street Festival returns August 22–24, 2026, and the organizers say this year's lineup is the biggest yet.
More Music Than You Can Handle
The festival is, at its core, a music event — but the sheer volume is what surprises first-timers. With 8 stages and 100+ bands across 3 days, you literally cannot attend everything. The stages span genres from classic rock and reggae to funk, blues, indie, and world music. The main stage sits on the street itself, flanked by vendor tents, and the smaller stages are tucked into the town's pockets — sometimes on lawns, sometimes in parking lots, sometimes next to a creek. You wander, you discover, you catch the tail end of a set you didn't know you needed.
Community Arts and the Rosendale Theatre Collective
The Rosendale Theatre Collective (RTC) — the town's scrappy, beloved community arts organization — runs its own 3-day music and arts festival within the festival. Expect local makers, artists, and performers showcased alongside the headliners. RTC also organizes the annual Rosendale Poets Festival (this year's theme is "The Poetry of Water") and the Rosendale Film Festival — both happening in the weeks leading up to Street Fest. The arts ecosystem here is year-round; the weekend festival is just when the whole region shows up for it.
The 2026 Edition Celebrates Water
This year's broader Rosendale arts programming centers on water — the Rondout Creek, the Delaware & Hudson Canal that runs through town, and the role of waterways in shaping the region's history. The Poets Festival already opened in July with readings and events, and Street Fest serves as the season's centerpiece. Expect water-themed art installations throughout the village and a strong emphasis on environmental stewardship from the community groups hosting booths.
What to Know Before You Go
Some practical notes for first-timers — and for veterans who've forgotten:
The Surrounding Area Is Worth Exploring Too
Street Fest weekend is also a great excuse to visit some of Rosendale's quieter draws. The Rosendale Trestle — an 850-foot former railroad bridge converted into a walking/biking trail — is part of the Walkway Over the Hudson trail system and offers spectacular views of the Rondout Creek gorge. The town's Tinker Street — where the 1967 folk scene once held court — still buzzes on weekends despite changes in the storefronts around it.
A Note About the Vibe
Rosendale Street Fest doesn't feel like a curated, branded festival. There are no VIP sections, no sponsored activations, no influencers on a stage. It's a grassroots, community-run event where a kid's band can play at 2 PM on a side stage and a 30-year-old funk outfit headlines the main stage at 9. That's the appeal — and why people return year after year.
It's also one of the last major free outdoor music festivals in the Hudson Valley of this scale. In a summer where almost everything charges $40 for a lawn chair, Rosendale Street Fest remains stubbornly, gloriously free. |
